Just F*****g Around Vol. 1!
July 27, 2011 09:39 PM PDT
Long time no see (again)! Life has been hectic. Working too much, not focusing on my page enough. But I got my new home studio set up finally, and put together a little on the fly mix for you guys to check out. One take, no edits, no nonsense. Just me in the raw. It's more of a top 40/club house mix since that's what I generally play when I'm DJ'ing. Anyway, hope you get a chance to check it out and I hope you enjoy it! Also, be sure to like my Artist page on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/djdougcollins1 . Thanks guys!! Tracklist:

Hey guys! Thanks for tuning in for this new series I'm going to be posting every month or 2. It's something I'm very excited to share with you, and I've put quite a bit of time into this project. In the music world, producers are a dime a dozen, with many having a few hot tracks and then falling off the map. Then there are the super-producers, the guys who keep churning out hit after hit and showing true staying power in the music industry. This first episode is dedicated to two of the most prolific producers in the game, Timbaland & Swizz Beatz. You know their sound, you know their songs when they come on the radio, and they always provide us with the freshest beats out there. So without further pause, I give you "Producer Volume 1: Timbland & Swizz Beatz." Tracklist:

Hey guys! Here is volume 7 of the 30 Minute Workout Series. I've been digging and digging for the past few weeks, and haven't found a whole lot of electronic music I liked, but I managed to come up with at least a few new gems and a couple hot tracks I missed from earlier this year. I hope you enjoy this episode. Take care!! Tracklist:

Thanks for tuning in to my podcast for the next installment of the Workout series. I can't call this one the 30 minute workout since it's a little longer than that! This episode has a little Halloween tribute at the beginning since this is the big week, and also includes an updated version of Thriller by the King of Halloween (and pop) himself. Hope you enjoy the mix, and be sure to tune into www.primerradio.com where this mix will also be posted Wednesday along with mixes from many of the other nation's best DJ's. Happy Halloween! So I was listening to this Dubfire/Richie Hawtin/Magda/Locodice Essential Mix yesterday, and got the itch to make a new techno mix. I love techno, but hardly ever buy it since it's not a big thing where I live and I don't get to play it in my sets. But since I get to share my mixes with all of you, I hit up Beatport and got a batch of new goodness to mix together!! Anyway, here's a full 66 minutes of the latest in techno and tech-house goodness. Enjoy!! Tracklist:

You can also head over to www.primerradio.com and download this same mix every Wednesday, along with mixes from DJ Gigahurtz, MikiWar, DJ CQ, and DJ Dainjazone. We're doing big things over on Primer Radio, so stay tuned!! 30 Minute Workout Volume 3: The Hip-Hop Edition
September 13, 2009 03:04 PM PDT
Here is a 30 minute hip-hop only set from my gig the other night. I have always loved old school hip-hop. Listening to it is like taking a trip back to a better time in music. The lyrics were the original, the beats were sampled, and it always kept your head nodding. You could call this a tribute to DJ AM if you want to. I know he was a big hip-hop fan, and listening to his sets and some of the recent Do-Over sets inspired me to throw this together, even though it's all off the top of my head and on the fly. Hope you enjoy it!! If you do, subscribe to my podcast and let your friends know to do the same. The hits are gonna keep on coming! Have a great weekend! Tracklist:

I'll have a new mix uploaded later this weekend, but I was going through my computer working on a set for tomorrow night and came across this oldie but goodie. Asylum Nightclub was the first (and probably still the best) nightclub I've ever worked for. I started there when I was 19 back in 2001 and played there every weekend until it closed in December 2005. It was the first club I ever heard an electronic music DJ play (Matt Freeman), and going there on my 18th birthday changed my life. This is part 1 of the recording of my final set there. I have no idea what's happened to part 2, but I hope you take time to listen to and enjoy this mix. No Serato, no Ableton, no editing. Just 2 turntables, some cheap CD players, and a mixer. The way it used to be. Enjoy it, everyone! 30 Minute Workout, Volume 2

Sorry it took me a little longer than expected to get this done. I recorded another set, and hated it, so I recompiled and made this set instead As most of you know, this has been a very rough week for DJ's and music fans alike. We lost DJ AM, the champion of our culture and the DJ's DJ. Here are a few thoughts I wrote down the day after he passed away... ------------------------------------------------------------
As you all know by now, Adam Goldstein aka DJ AM was found dead in his NYC apartment yesterday. A whirlwind of rumors surrounds his untimely death. All the news stations are reporting drugs seem to be the main cause, but other people who were close to him are saying it was some sort of accident. Whatever the cause may be, all we know is the DJ's DJ has passed away. I never met him. I never got to see him play live, which right now is really hard on me. I wish I would have taken a night off from my own DJ'ing gigs to go see him when was in town. But I suppose, like him, I was doing what I love to do. However, even though I didn't know him on a personal level, I like many others, felt an extremely close connection to him. In this world we live in with 24/7 news, Twitter, Myspace, Blackberries, and everything else, we have the opportunity to stay connected to the world outside our own at all times. I always looked forward to reading one of Adam's tweets, or checking out his newest Youtube video or hearing one of his live sets posted on someone's blog. I lived to see and hear my favorite DJ do things I could only imagine being able to do in front of crowds I could only imagine to be playing for. As a DJ, many of us spend many nights playing for half empty rooms playing for crowds who will never know how hard we dig for music to try and make them happy. Most of us have 1000's of songs on our hard drives and in our CD books that we never get to play because we're either too afraid of being hated on or we're just sure the crowd won't get it. Adam was one of those few DJ's who wasn't afraid to play every last song in his collection, and he did it so well it didn't matter if he was playing the newest top 40 hit or some obscure rock song nobody has ever heard. If he was feeling it, odds are the crowd was feeling it too. Few DJ's have the confidence, the skills, and the control over crowds the way he did. And that's not just because he was the famous DJ AM. From all accounts, he was the nicest guy you'd ever meet, and never let his fame get to him. He was one of us. He was a lover of music. He was a lover of life. He was a survivor. He was the champion of a whole culture, but he was still a normal person. We'll never know what went through his head after last September. I can only begin to imagine what kind of toll an event like that can take on your life. I read his tweets and posts about how scared he was to fly after the crash, but he still did it for all of YOU! He wasn't going to let himself live in fear. He wanted to get out there and play to all the people who adored him and live his life to the fullest. And he did it. Adam, you were an inspiration not just to me, but to everyone who has a dream to do what they love. All I've wanted to be since I was young was a DJ, and you were my #1 motivator. A regular guy who reached for the stars, and touched them. Now, I hope you touch the heavens, and make the angels dance. Rest in peace, my man. ---------------------------------------------------------- This 30 minute workout set isn't the tribute to AM I plan on, but it does have a few tracks I know were big ones for him. And I thought the final track was appropriate as well. I'm playing at a fairly open format event on Friday night the 11th and plan on putting something together that will be a more fitting tribtute, done completely on the fly on 2 turntables and a mixer, the way he would have liked it. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around every once in a while, you could miss it..." TRACKLIST
